Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, a day to gather with friends and family and celebrate all of the things in our life that we're thankful for. If you're like me or thousands of other Gilmore Girls fans, one of those things will be the fact that a mere 24 hours later, the Netflix revival Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will premiere. It's the greatest gift to any fan. What could be better...except for also getting fabulous Gilmore Girls-themed gifts for Christmas?
Nothing, that's what. So in that spirit, I present to you the best gifts to get for the Gilmore Girls fans in your life that will help them live in the spirit of their Black Friday binge-fest all year long.
1) Wall Art
You can find the perfect gift to add beauty and Gilmore Girls representation to any fan's home, no matter what their favorite artistic medium is.
First, check out these amazing Stars Hollow vintage travel posters from Window Shop Gal. I have one and I absolutely love it. I might have to get this one to add to my Christmas decorations:
If that's a little too blatantly Gilmore Girls-referencing for your friend's taste, here's a more subtle, but still lovely, papercut map of Stars Hollow from Oh Cut It Out:
If they like embroidery (and coffee), how about this Bananya Stand cross stitch?
Speaking of coffee, how about a mug featuring another about coffee from the show?
Like this one from Printed For Keeps:
Or this one from Cool TV Props (both sides shown):
3) Pick Me Cups Candles
If the Gilmore Fan you know wants the smell of coffee to last all day long, get them one of these self-described "Tongue-in-Cheek Inspired Soy Candle[s]," like the mocha coffee-scented "Coffee @ Luke's Diner" or the caramel latte-scented "Welcome to Stars Hollow." No fears if they're not keen on the coffee smell, though: there are plenty of other ones with a variety of scents, from "Emily Gilmore's White Wine" to "Lorelai Gilmore's Daisies." There's even competing "Team Jess" and "Team Logan" candles. (Dean apparently isn't important enough to make the cut, but honestly, is that really that surprising?) For the truly adventurous, try the "Kirk Gleason Is Full of Surprises" candle that is literally "Mystery Scented." (Again, not surprising.)
4) Kindred Handicrafts T-Shirts
These are the ultimate Gilmore Girls shirts, with lots of deep-cut references. (I had to look up the one that said "22.8." Apparently that's the distance from Stars Hollow to Yale that Jess looks up.) Here's a classic:
5) The Eat Like a Gilmore Cookbook
When I first saw the title, I thought it sounded like the worst cookbook of all time, because the Gilmore Girls basically eat garbage 24/7. But I was relieved to find that it includes recipes for food that other people in the show eat or make, including dishes by chef extraordinaire Sookie St. James and the meals served by Emily Gilmore at her Friday night dinners.
6) All Things Gilmore Guys
I think the greatest gift you can give to Gilmore Girls fans is introducing them to the Gilmore Guys podcast, in which two twenty-something guys, one a Gilmore veteran and one a new watcher, discuss every episode of the show. (Warning: Make sure they're okay with profanity and occasional crass jokes, the extent of which varies depending who their guests are.) It's funny and fascinating (they both have a lot of TV industry knowledge - you'll learn a lot!), and I absolutely love it. It also has become pretty famous, enough so that major cast and crew members have done interviews on the show, and the guys even scored themselves a cameo in the new episodes. Once the Gilmore Girls fans you know and love become fans of the podcast, you can get them some of the merchandise, like these socks featuring catchphrases from the show:
