1. I can talk to her about anything, whenever I randomly think of it.
I’m not a big phone person, so I don’t just call my mom whenever I think of something to talk to her about or ask her. And some things are minor enough that I forget to bring them up the next time we talk. It’s nice to just be able to discuss something immediately. Preferably while drinking coffee.
2. Everything looks nicer when she’s here.
My mom is a domestic goddess, so everything she touches in my house gets better. She helps me figure out where to hang a picture or what plants to grow where. When she helps me make dinner, even her tomato slices look better than mine. And she would get a killer “presentation” score if she were on Chopped.
3. She “treats” me.
Whether it’s taking us out to dinner or buying us a Christmas wreath, my mom gifts us in so many ways. And even though she’s the guest, she treats me like I am. She’ll have me take a break while she finishes cleaning up something or getting dinner ready.
4. She is fine with keeping things low-key.
I don’t feel pressure to plan tons of activities while she’s here, because she’s perfectly fine with just hanging out, talking, and watching HGTV with me. It’s incredibly relaxing.
5. She is excited to try new things with me.
At the same time, though, I like to plan to do some activities with her because my mom is always up for trying something new and seeing more of the place where I live. She also helps me try new things, usually projects that intimidate me, like sewing curtains or tearing down wallpaper. Her presence and help gives me the courage I need to do them.
Basically, having my mom around is the best, and so I’m super excited she’s here with us this week. Thanks, Mom!
