This weekend, I took a spontaneous trip to Boston. Lisa was there for a conference, and after realizing that Boston is only about 2.5 hours away from me (yay East Coast!), all I could think was, "Why not?"
Well, that wasn't all I could think. I also thought about how kind of freaked out I was about driving around a city like Boston. City driving is not my forte. And I was also a little freaked out about doing something so random in general, because again, it was a situation where I Did Not Know Exactly How Things Would Go.
But, in the ultimate act of Doing a Thing, I did it! And it was awesome.
We were reunited for the first time since Christmas!
Sisters, together at long last!
There were beautiful flowers!
And a beautiful park!
And history. So much history.
A very historical graveyard that is the final resting place of the Boston massacre victims, Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and others.
Old City Hall, with a a statue of Ben Franklin.
A cool old theater that Charles Dickens once performed at that is now a Baptist church.
Ye Olde Meeting House where the decision to enact the Boston Tea Party was made.
Lisa interacting with the Civil War monument.
That's not even close to a fair representation of all the history that's there. I only wish we had more time to explore more of it.
But even though it was a short trip, it was so good. So good to see Lisa, most importantly. So good to realize how far I've come in being able to even do something like this. So good to have a random adventure.
And the spirit of the trip lived on as I happened to watch the 30 Rock episode that takes place in Boston the next day. It doesn't get much better than that.
