Last year I set some New Year's goals. Now it's time to check in and see how things went!
1. Come up with a meal plan schedule
It took me almost all year, but I think I finally have one that's going to work. I assigned every night of the week a category of food. It looks like this:
Tuesday: Taco Tuesday, obvs
Saturday: Meat Main Dish
I love this method because it's much easier to generate a meal plan each week with these boundaries, instead of just trying to come up with one from scratch. Of course when I'm planning I take into account eating out or having people over or when I think we'll have lots of leftovers, but it's great to have a baseline all ready to go. Success!!!
2. Actually use cloth grocery bags
I've gotten very good at this, mostly because I started shopping at Aldi. At Aldi, you have to pay for plastic and paper grocery bags, so I am now highly incentivized. To help me, I don't keep my bags in my car (where I forget them); I put them by the door and grab them on the way out and then I remember. I did get burned a couple of times when I decided to go grocery shopping spontaneously when I was running other errands, but on the whole this has gone really well.
3. Not get any library fines
I did not do so great at this. Since we have been to Wheaton, we have racked up $16 in fines. We've definitely had worse years, but I still want to do better. Our biggest problem is movies--those $1 a day fines really hit hard. This year I'm going to try to be even more attentive, especially with movies, and get that number down.
So all in all, not a bad year for little goals! COMING SOON: the goals of 2017!
