This is an article I’d meaning to read for a long time, and I’m glad I finally did. It echos so much of what I’ve learned from my nutritionist and my own experience about health, especially that hating your body and stressing it out through deprivation is extremely counterproductive.
This interview with Megan Stack about her new book Women’s Work gives a good overview into the tricky power dynamics and “ethics of the domestic-labor economy.” As Stack says, “I’m not interested in a program for some women to advance on the backs of others.” Methinks some systemic change is in order.
Apparently the theme this week is articles interviewing authors about their books; this one is about Jenny Odell’s book How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy. Odell makes fascinating connections between social media and “capitalist always-on hustle culture,” and I appreciate her non-all-or-nothing stance about how to make it healthy and helpful for you.
